ACEI Week of the
Classroom Teacher
May 2-8, 2004
"Imagine if we loved other people's children enough to do what we would do for our own
to fight for them, to protect them, to work to give them the best of everything.
That level of compassion takes courage...courage to act on what we know is best for children
to dig in our heels and say no to bad decisions, to risk condemnation,
or even our jobs to support what we know is right for children.
The real heroes in education are the people willing to take a stand for what is right."
Dr. Marian Galbraith, 2002 Connecticut Teacher of the Year
Each year during the first full week of May, the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) encourages communities to honor the professionalism and dedication of teachers everywhere.
When you participate in the Week of the Classroom Teacher, you encourage your community to become involved in the education of its children. When parents help to write notes or draw pictures to applaud special teachers, children recognize the value of education, and educators feel that other adults are supporting them.

"How can you spot an early childhood teacher?
She's the one with red tempera paint on her elbow. He's the one who smells like school glue. She's the one buying apple juice by the gallon. He's the one who volunteers to sit on the floor at parties."
Shirley Raines, Educator, Author, Past ACEI President, and 1st woman to be named president of a major public university in the Mid-South (University of Memphis, 2001)
