Childhood Education Author Guidelines

Childhood Education is the voice of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and a professional medium for those concerned with the education and well-being of children from infancy through early adolescence: classroom teachers, teachers-in-training, teacher educators, parents, child care workers, librarians, supervisors, administrators and others. The journal seeks to stimulate thinking rather than advocate fixed practice. It explores emerging ideas and presents conflicting opinions supported whenever possible with research. Childhood Education also aims to express the goals, aspirations and convictions of ACEI and its Direction Plan. To represent the voice of ACEI accurately, the journal encourages involvement of the Association's membership in communication of needs and contribution to publication planning.

Content
The Editor invites articles that develop special topics or themes. Unsolicited manuscripts on focus topics outlined in the journal's editorial calendar are encouraged. An attempt is made to include accounts of innovative practices in the classroom and other settings, reviews of research, statements by leaders in education and allied fields, discussion of timely issues, descriptions of programs and practices beyond United States borders, human interest stories and bits of humor or satire.
Editorial Policy
ACEI's publishing program strives to support the Association's mission, which is to promote children's education and development, and influence educators' professional growth. Manuscripts are judged according to how well they reflect that mission. While the views expressed in ACEI publications are not necessarily those of the Association membership at large, we do edit for adherence to ethical and style standards. ACEI seeks to reduce bias in language, following the guidelines established in the American Psychological Association's Publication Manual (4th ed.). We also seek to maintain high ethical standards in terms of publication credit. Finally, as ACEI is an international and inclusive organization, we avoid content and language that may be construed as biased toward any one nation, religion, socioeconomic group, race, or gender.
Form and Length
Style (particularly references) should be consistent with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th ed.). Manuscripts (including references) should be typewritten, double-spaced, on one side of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Authors must submit four copies (with identifying information on only 1 copy) and the Copyright Transfer Agreement below (or a facsimile). Preferred length is 2 to 5 journal pages (1400-3500 words). Enclose a stamped, self-addressed manuscript envelope. International submissions are requested to include International Postage Coupons.
Review
Childhood Education is a refereed journal. Unsolicited manuscripts are anonymously reviewed by at least three readers on the Publications Committee. The final decision rests with the Editor, who is guided by the reviewers' comments and such considerations as space, timeliness and projected plans.

Reviewing takes about 3 months. Rejected manuscripts are returned only to those authors providing a stamped self-addressed manuscript envelope. The Editor cannot consider proposals or outlines. Send completed manuscripts only.

Acceptance
Authors are requested to submit accepted material in hard copy and electronically (Microsoft Word, text only, or rich text format). Camera-ready diagrams, tables, charts or figures are often desirable. Photographs are encouraged (glossy prints, black-and-white or color, 8" x 10" if possible, with complete captions and credit lines). Authors are to obtain model releases for photographs (photographs and diskettes returned upon publication).
Publication
Accepted manuscripts will be published according to timeliness of subject matter, space availability and projected schedule. All manuscripts are edited to conform to the journal's editorial standards and space requirements. Prior to publication, authors are furnished with galley proofs.
Remuneration
Authors receive no remuneration other than five advance copies of the journal. Articles and illustrations are considered a contribution to the profession.

COPYRIGHT TRANSFER AGREEMENT

I (the author) transfer copyright to the manuscript______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
by (list all authors) ____________________________________________________________________________

to the Association for Childhood Education International in consideration of publication. This transfer shall become effective if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, thereby granting ACEI the right to authorize republication, reproduction and distribution of the original and derivative material. I further certify that the manuscript under consideration has not been published and is not being considered by another publication.
