| Associate
Degree Program Curriculum |
|
The Associate Degree Program curriculum is
designed to provide students with skills important for future success,
including critical thinking, reading, reasoning and analysis,
mathematics, and elementary foreign language skills. The curriculum
also provides exposure to the various disciplines of the arts and
humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The Associate Degree
Program courses form the foundation of a traditional liberal arts
education,
and will satisfy a large portion of the General Education course
requirements for the BA in the University's College of Arts and
Sciences, for those students
who continue toward four-year degree completion.
In the first year of the
Associate
Degree Program, students take a common core of courses that include a
Freshman
Seminar designed to promote academic success. In the second year,
students
have the opportunity to focus on courses in Humanities, Social
Sciences,
Natural Sciences, or Languages; these courses are the springboard for
entry
into a BA program in Newark.
The Associate of Arts
degree
requires the successful completion of 60 credit hours of approved
academic
work with a minimum grade point index of 2.0. Admitted students may
pursue
the degree part-time or full-time. Full-time students may expect to
complete
the degree in about two years.
University
of Delaware faculty provide the instruction for the Associate
Degree Program, and students
enrolled in the program are UD students, with the courses automatically
appearing
on a UD transcript.
Up to 29 credits of appropriate courses transferred from
other institutions also may be counted towards Associate in Arts Degree
completion, but generally we prefer that transfer students enter with
no more
than 12 credits from another institution. Successfully completed
coursework of students already enrolled at DTCC will be applied toward
degree requirements if the courses completed meet the curriculum and
transfer requirements of
the Associate in Arts degree.
