| Continuing toward the BA degree at UD |
|
Students who complete the
Associate in Arts Degree will be positioned for timely completion of a
University of Delaware BA on the Newark campus, in majors listed at
right -- the Associate
in Arts curriculum is specially designed to enable students to complete
these majors with another two years of study in Newark.
Other
majors, selected from among the more than 90 BA programs in UD's
College of Arts and Sciences in Newark, may also be completed in a
reasonable time frame.
For admission directly to a
particular academic major, Associate Degree Program students must
complete the prescribed coursework for those majors and also must meet
the entry requirements expected of all students admitted to the
particular major. Some majors have competitive entry requirements,
requiring selection through an internal application process that
applies to all students, including those completing the Associate in
Arts degree.
The University
provides Associate Degree
Program students
with lists of specific course combinations that will meet the
requirements for the Associate in Arts degree and, at the same time,
serve as entry tracks into selected majors at the Newark
campus.
All Associate Degree Program students will be expected to
remain in
the Associate Degree Program program for two
years or or until the completion of the 60-credits of degree
requirements. Earlier
relocation to Newark is not possible - students must complete the
entire 60-credit curriculum in order to be eligible to relocate to
Newark. Associate in Arts students receive a considerable
discount on tuition, and in return, they are expected to complete the
entire degree before relocating to Newark.
All the courses needed to
enter a particular major may not be available at all Associate Degree
Program sites.
Upon admission, students will receive more information about the course
combinations that lead to specific majors and their availability at the
various
sites.
Associate Degree Program graduates may continue study for a limited
number
of University of Delaware bachelor's degree programs that are offered
in
Milford and Georgetown, so long as they meet the requirements for
admission
to the particular majors offered at those locations. The majors
that
can be completed through four years of study in Southern Delaware
include
the major in Criminal Justice leading to the BA (Georgetown), the major
in
Agricualture and Natural Resources leading to the BS (Georgetown),
and the Major in Elementary Teacher Education leading to the BS
(Milford).
In addition, the Bachelor
of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management and the
Bachelor
of Science in Nursing for the R.N. (B.R.N.) are offered through online
study.
Some Delaware students who
initially apply and are accepted to the Newark campus for pursuit of a
four-year Bachelors degree may choose to take early coursework at sites
at which Associate Degree
Program coursework is available.
Four-year degree candidates are charged full UD tuition, not the
discounted rate for the Associate in Arts Program, and are not eligible
for SEED Scholarships. Students
should make their intentions known at the time of application, so that
the timetable for
moving
to the Newark campus for completion of their degree can be included in
the
letter of acceptance. In most
cases,
we recommend that students who are admitted to Newark should enroll
there.
