ARTC for School Administrators

How Can I Identify Possible ARTC Teachers for My School?

ARTC works to increase the pool of candidates via our Web site, community outreach, and targeted recruitment of individuals whose academic and work experiences make them well suited for the transition to a career in the classroom.

Individuals who contact the ARTC office are evaluated for program eligibility, encouraged to satisfy the Praxis I and II requirements, post an online application at teachdelaware.com and submit personal information to the ARTC office via an online form. These forms are routinely forwarded to all district/school personnel offices. A database of potential candidates is also maintained. The ARTC office can provide contact information, on request, for possible ARTC teachers in each of the subject areas we cover.

If you are considering a candidate who does not already have an email from the ARTC office confirming eligibility, you should fax or email a copy of the candidate's college transcript(s) to the ARTC office for evaluation. Unofficial transcripts are fine, but be sure that they are accompanied by a list of the course(s) he or she will be teaching.

How Do I Enroll Teachers in ARTC?

Once you have confirmed a candidate's eligibility and decided to hire, your personnel office should contact the ARTC office with the candidate's name, address, phone, social security number, birthdate, email address when available, and where and what he or she will be teaching. The ARTC coordinator will then issue a letter enrolling the candidate in the program, with copies to the DOE Office of Professional Accountability, the district personnel office, and the school principal.

Do note that it is not sufficient to have the candidate contact the ARTC office about enrollment. No one is enrolled in the program until eligibility is established and the district requests enrollment.

What About NCLB?

Teachers enrolled in ARTC are regarded as "highly qualified" under No Child Left Behind, and should take the HQT Survey. They are issued an initial license and emergency certificate while they complete the program.

What Do I Need to Do in Support of an ARTC Teacher?

The school has a critical role in the mentoring and supervision of ARTC teachers, documenting the internship year in lieu of student teaching, and making a recommendation for certification.
