| To
be eligible for ARTC, you must already have a bachelor's degree
from an accredited college with a major (or equivalent) in a "critical
needs" subject area or closely related field. For purposes
of ARTC eligibility, 30 college credits in a subject is regarded
as equivalent to a college major. The only exception is world languages, where native speakers may qualify with a bachelor's degree in a subject other than the target language (see below).
WHAT
ARE THE "CRITICAL NEEDS" SUBJECTS COVERED BY ARTC?
"Critical
needs areas" are middle and high school subjects in which the
state has identified a critical shortage of certified teachers.
Each year the
Delaware Department of Education reviews this list and adjusts it
to reflect changing needs in the state.
The
following secondary subjects are currently "critical needs"
in Delaware, and thus covered by ARTC:

HOW
DO I ESTABLISH ARTC ELIGIBILITY?
You
should mail, fax or email your transcripts (unofficial will do)
to the ARTC office to confirm eligibility.
BE SURE THAT YOUR NAME, PHONE, AND EMAIL ADDRESS ARE WITH YOUR TRANSCRIPT(S).
If you are a University of Delaware graduate, please provide your
name when you were a student, date of birth and the last 4 digits of your social security number. You will
receive an email confirming your eligibility and outlining the next
steps to take. You may use this email when applying for teaching positions
Transcript
Pleas(e):
DO NOT have transcripts sent directly from your college or university.
Always send them yourself so you can be sure your current name, phone and email
address are WITH the transcript. We have a drawer full of wonderful
transcripts whose owners we cannot contact.
DO send all your transcripts together, rather than in bits and pieces.
DO
NOT use ANY format (like pasting into the body of an e-mail) that
turns a 2-page transcript into 60 pages or omits important information
like what degree was conferred, when and by whom.
DO
scan your transcripts as simple, low-resolution black-and-white
DOCUMENTS, not as high-resolution color photos suitable for enlarging
to poster size.
Non-US Degrees
If
you have a degree from a foreign university, you must have your
transcripts translated into course-by-course U.S. college equivalents
before they can be reviewed for ARTC eligibility. There are a variety
of organizations that perform this service. Two are the Office
of International Education Services (OIES) (phone: 202-296-3359;
fax: 202-872-8857), and the World
Education Services (WES) (phone: 212-966-6311).
