What Is Family & Consumer Sciences?

FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES has evolved from what many of us remember as Home Economics into logical sequences of courses organized into career pathways related to improving the lives of individuals, families and communities. Schools and districts select which pathway(s) to offer; not all pathways are available in all Delaware schools.

You should consider Family & Consumer Sciences if you have a college degree (or 30 college credits) in areas like family and consumer sciences, home economics, or

for the Clothing & Textiles pathway: Textiles, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising;

for the Early Childhood Education pathway: Early Childhood Development or Education;

for the Human Services pathway: Human Services, Family & Community Services, Human Development, Family Studies, Marriage & Family, Gerontology;

for the Nutrition & Culinary pathway: Nutrition, Dietetics, Culinary Arts, Food Science.

In all areas, professional experience in the field is highly desireable.
