Praxis
II is a group of standardized tests, administered by
the Educational Testing Service (ETS), that measures mastery
of specific subject areas.
ARTC
teachers hired after March 18, 2004 must pass the Praxis II
test in the subject area they are teaching, whenever one is
available. Candidates should satisfy this requirement as soon
as possible and ideally before beginning ARTC courses. In all
cases, it must be completed by the end of the school year after
hire.
Candidates
who qualify for more than one subject area, each with a different
Praxis II test, may want to wait until after hire to determine
which test to take.
While
it is not sufficient to pass Praxis II to qualify for ARTC in
a particular subject area (candidates must also meet the academic
requirements), once certified in one subject it is possible
to add certificates in other subjects by passing the appropriate
Praxis II test.
AVAILABILITY
The
Praxis II is currently available ONLY
