“Disco-Techné.”
With Tao Urban. 2003
Audio Visual Installation and Architectural Construction
With Motors, Mixing boards, Mirrored Plexi, Found Objects, Corrugated
Plastic and Packing Tape. 10’x20’x20’This piece was conceived for a San Francisco show about “products”. Tao and I constructed a dome out of plastic and packing tape that was an amorphous version of a Fuller. The material is semi-translucent so that what was happening inside (spinning disco balls made by mirroring found objects, with videos of their making and other real-time images projected onto them, A full sound-track made from sampling and mixing the sounds that occurred during the making of the structure, fog being blown of a miniature model of the Golden Gate Bridge, occasional dancers, etc.) could be partially seen from the outside. We went in with the idea of an evolving disco-tech that took the information from each day and mixed it together to make new music and visual effects each night. |
