MONICA AND BRAND FORTNER ENDOWNMENT FOR ANTHROPOLOGICAL RESEARCH

APPLICATION FOR FUNDING SUPPORT

DESCRIPTION

The Monica and Brand Fortner Endowment for Anthropological Research was created to provide funding support for undergraduate students pursuing a major in the Department of Anthropology of the University of Delaware.  Eligible research includes field, laboratory, and archival research in any of the four major sub-fields of anthropology (biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, archaeology, or anthropological linguistics).  Funds may be used for travel expenses, supplies, or services needed to produce materials for publication, such as photography and preparation of illustrations.  Awards are normally for a maximum of up to $300; however, in some circumstances they may exceed that amount.

Applications may be submitted to the Department Chair throughout the calendar year up to the deadline of March 15.  Most decisions on awards will be announced by April 15 after the year’s accumulated applications are given final review with reference to each other and funds available for disbursement that year.  Applicants for projects requiring funding earlier in the Spring or during the Fall may request to have their proposals considered for early decision (please explain and specify the date by which a decision is needed in such cases).  All projects must have a faculty sponsor from the permanent faculty of the Department of Anthropology, University of Delaware.  All proposals should use the application form available as an MS Word document here.
