Program of Study
The normal program of study is 33 credit hours unless the applicant already holds an M.A. Degree from the University of Delaware. All courses are three credit hours. These courses include the following distribution requirements:
Major Field in United States History:
- Two courses in historiography, one of which may include the material culture historiography.
- Two research and writing seminars
- At least two reading seminars
Minor Field:
- The minor field is selected by the student in consultation with the Director of the Program. The minor field may include topics in or outside the Department of History. Students will take at least two reading seminars or their equivalent
Material Culture:
- Introduction to American Decorative Arts (Summer Institute)
- Two courses, students choice, on architecture, archaeology, decorative arts, environmental history, interior design, design history, craftsmanship, history of technology, or visual culture.
Professional Training:
- Service as a Research Assistant or as a Teaching Assistant.
