Schedule

  • UD Botanic Gardens (South Campus) Sunrise until sunset
  • Surrounding the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the UD Botanic Gardens are a series of twelve gardens on fifteen acres. The gardens serve as a research center, laboratory and classroom, maintaining more than 3,000 species and cultivars of perennials, shrubs, and trees.
  • Morris Library 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Visit the place where many alumni spent countless hours during their college careers and see the changes that have been made to the building.
  • Blue Hen Café at the UD Bookstore (83 E. Main St.) 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Located just inside the store’s Main Street entrance, the café proudly serves Starbucks coffee, baked products, sandwiches, and pints of ice cream from the UDairy Creamery.
  • Civil & Environmental Engineering Alumni Golf Outing (Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club, 507 Thompson Station Road, Newark) 8 a.m.
  • Challenge your fellow Civil & Environmental Engineering alumni to a round of golf! The event proceeds benefit Civil & Environmental Engineering Students. For more information and a registration form, contact Marikka Beach at marikka@udel.edu. Registration opens at 8 a.m. and it’s a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The golf outing will be followed by a department reception in 301 DuPont Hall.
  • UDairy Creamery (South Campus, adjacent to the Fred Rust Ice Arena) 9 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • The UDairy Creamery, featuring ice cream made with the milk from UD’s herd of dairy cows, will be open for ice cream sales. Come down and try the NEW signature Dela-bration flavor!
  • University of Delaware Bookstore (83 E. Main St.) 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Centrally located at Main and Academy in downtown Newark and offering everything from cappuccino to computers, the new Barnes & Noble UD Bookstore is open to the public, UD alumni and students.
  • Mineralogical Museum: Colorado Rhodochrosites (Penny Hall) Noon-5 p.m.
  • Among the hundreds of gold and silver mines that operated in Colorado since the 1870s, many produced vivid red-pink rhodochrosite specimens. Although the Sweet Home Mine in Park County, CO is best known for the rhodochrosite specimens mined during the 1990s, many other Colorado mines also have produced aesthetic examples of this manganese carbonate mineral. Specimens displayed are thanks to a generous loan from Dave Bunk.

  • 1:00 p.m. remarks/guided exhibition - Gertrude Käsebier: The Complexity of Light and Shade (Gallery) Join University Museums Collections Manager Jan Gardner Broske and Curator of Education Ivan Henderson at 1:00 p.m. in the Gallery to view Gertrude Käsebier, and hear remarks by exhibition curator Stephen Petersen.
  • 1:30 p.m. remarks/guided exhibition - Common Threads: A History of Fashion Through a Woman’s Eyes (Old College West Gallery). Join us at 1:30 p.m. to hear remarks by Fashion and Apparel Studies graduate student Martha Hall on this exhibition, which chronicles 20th century women’s fashion and explores the meaning of fashion in art and social and historical contexts. On view are objects from the Historic Costume and Textiles Collection of the University’s Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies.

  • This event is SOLD OUT (as of 5/8/13) - Join alumni of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering to hear what’s new in the department and reconnect with former and current professors.
  • Office of Admissions Volunteers Reception (University Visitors Center, 210 S. College Ave.) 5-7 p.m.
  • This reception is for all Volunteer Admissions Support Team (VAST) members, former admissions student employees and alumni interested in getting involved with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Share your favorite admissions stories, meet the new director, Dr. Jose Aviles, and reconnect with staff and tour guides. Also learn more about joining VAST and the ways you can make an impact in your hometown. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be served.
  • Club Sports Alumni Reception (Catherine Rooney's, 102 E. Main Street, 2nd Floor) 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Former club sports participants are invited back to reconnect with former teammates and coaches. Two complimentary beverages (beer or wine) will be provided. Hors d’oeuvres will also be served for your enjoyment.
  • Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics 2013 Alumni Awards of Excellence (Alfred Lerner Hall Atrium) 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Join the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics Alumni Association and Dean Bruce Weber for a reception and presentation honoring this year’s award recipients. This event is free and open to the public. Join us for a cocktail reception beginning at 6 p.m. and the awards presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by dessert and coffee.
  • College of Education and Human Development Alumni Reception (Alison Hall) 6-8 p.m.
  • Alumni and friends are invited to join us at the College of Education and Human Development’s alumni reception as we kick off Alumni Weekend. Reunite with faculty and classmates over complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages and learn about the college’s exciting new initiatives.   • Alumni and friends from the College of Health Sciences (School of Nursing, and Departments of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health and Nutrition, and Medical Technology) are invited to join Dean Kathy Matt ’75 and faculty from each department, as we recognize distinguished alumni from each of our departments at a reception with light refreshments and beverages. Come hear the progress underway for our future home - the new Health Sciences complex on UD’s STAR campus (former Chrysler site) and how the college is making a difference for our students and the community.

  • Alumni from the Geology and Geography Departments and the School of Marine Science and Policy (former College of Marine Studies) are invited to join Dean Nancy Targett to hear about the exciting programs and highlights of CEOE.   • Alumni Reception co-hosted by the College of Arts & Sciences & the Institute for Global Studies (Memorial Hall lobby) 6-8 p.m.
  • Alumni Reception co-hosted by the College of Arts & Sciences and the Institute for Global Studies in celebration of the 90th anniversary of UD’s Study Abroad program, and to kick off Alumni Weekend, please join George Watson '85, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, and Nancy Guerra, Associate Provost for International Programs and Director of the Institute for Global Studies, as they co-host a reception featuring live music provided by our very own faculty and staff members, Jack Bartley ’83 and Ruthie Toole.   • Lambda Chi Alumni Reunion (Lambda Chi House, 163 W. Main St.) 6-8 p.m.

  • Wine Pairing Shabbat Reception for Alumni hosted by Chabad (Chabad House, 262 South College Ave.) 6-9 p.m.
  • What wine goes best with challah? Find out at Chabad's wine pairing Shabbat reception. Blue Hens of all persuasions are invited to join Rabbi Sneiderman and his family for some of your Jewish favorites before Mug Night Dela-bration. Matzo Ball soup, four kinds of Kugel, brown sugar cinnamon challah and other Jewish delicacies will be served.
  • Athletics Reception (Deer Park Tavern, 2nd Floor) 6-8 p.m.
  • Reconnect with fellow student athlete alumni. Come back to this event and get re-immersed in the UD athletic community and reconnect with teammates and coaches. The reception includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres along with a drink ticket. $10 per person.
  • Honors Program Reception (Honors Program Building, 186 S. College Ave.) 6-8 p.m.
  • All Honors Program alumni are invited to a reception before Mug Night. Chat with Honors alumni, faculty and staff, and meet some new members of the Honors Program staff.   • Class of 1963 50th Reunion Celebration Meet & Greet (Timothy’s of Newark, 100 Creek View Rd.) 7-10 p.m.
  • Join your fellow 1963 classmates for a gathering to kick off Alumni Weekend. $12 per person.
  • Physical Therapy Alumni Reception (Physical Therapy Clinic, 053 McKinly Laboratory) 7:30-8:45 p.m.
  • Come and greet your fellow classmates and old friends over light refreshments before heading out to join the fun at Mug Night.
  • Mug Night Dela-bration (Two tents on the North and South Green, on either side of Memorial Hall) 8-11 p.m.
  • As of 5/23, both Mug Night tents are SOLD OUT. No wait lists will be kept and no more tickets will be made available.

    In the event of inclement weather, UD reserves the right to postpone (to June 1) or cancel Mug Night. No refunds will be issued if Mug Night is postponed or cancelled.

    **If you cannot attend Friday Mug Night, you may transfer your name badge / registration to a replacement up until Thursday, May 30 at 4:30 p.m. by emailing your replacement's name to aw-registration@udel.edu. After that deadline, name badges are non-transferable. Transfers will not be accepted at the door without a confirmation email sent to aw-registration@udel.edu. If Mug Night is postponed and you are unable to attend Saturday night, you may turn in your name badge in exchange for your mug and t-shirt. Name badge/registration transfers will not be accepted and no refunds will be issued in the event Mug Night is postponed, so please do all that you can to keep your Saturday night open as well in the event Mug Night is postponed.

    Event Description:
    Join Blue Hens under two massive tents for an evening of friends, food, dancing and drinks. The Blue Tent (located on The North Green) will have Speaker City performing, and the Gold Tent (located on The South Green) will have Love Seed Mama Jump. If you graduated in the 1990s or before, we suggest you sign up for the tent with Love Seed Mama Jump, UD’s hottest band from the mid-90s. If you graduated in the 2000s, we suggest you sign up for the tent with Speaker City, whose band members are millennium graduates.All attendees receive a commemorative Alumni Weekend mug. Both tents will have identical food, drinks and decorations. $45 per person.
  • Blue Hen R&B Lounge – NEW! (Roselle Center for the Arts, Puglisi Hall) 8-11 p.m.
  • Dance the night away and enjoy a two-hour open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres at the first annual Blue Hen R&B Lounge, featuring the sounds of the band Best Kept Soul and DJ Silk spinning the best in r&b and hip hop! $25 per person.

  • P.O.D. Market has been quite a hit up on Laird Campus! You can get hot, ready-to-eat pizza, an assortment of sandwiches and wraps, and an ice cream cone from SCOOP's (serving UDairy Ice Cream). Also available at the P.O.D. is fresh produce, frozen meals and snacks, a coffee bar, bottled and fountain beverages, as well as a wide selection of organic items and a campus favorite - bulk candy! P.O.D. also offers toiletries, household items, magazines, and more! So come on in, you won't leave disappointed - or empty handed!

  • The Gold Guard is composed of graduates who have been alumni for 50 years or more. Each year the 50th reunion class (this year, the class of 1963) is inducted into the Gold Guard and they are celebrated with special programming.

  • Participate in the Career Services Center's new career advice internet channel. This "channel" will spotlight Blue Hens, their career stories and success through short video clips. When registering, indicate your interest (look for the Blue Hen CareerTube item and select "Yes"). Registrants will be contacted by Career Services during the first week of May to schedule their 30-minute film session to take place on Saturday, June 1.
  • Physical Therapy Alumni Breakfast (333 McKinly Laboratory) 9-11 a.m.

  • "Emancipation Proclamation and Its Legacies" and "Fighting for Equality: Littleton P. Mitchell" Exhibitions (Morris Library) 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • The first exhibition was mounted as a part of the "Emancipation Se¬mester" series given by the Department of History at UD during the Spring 2013 semester which com¬memorated the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. In the second exhibition, Littleton P. Mitchell (1918-2009), a Tuskegee Airman and contemporary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was the decades-long leader of the Delaware Branch of the NAACP and was committed to the elimination of seg¬regation laws and practices during the Civil Rights Movement.
  • Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering (ISE) Laboratory tours (Corner of Lovett Avenue and Academy Streets) 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • This event is SOLD OUT. (as of 4/22/13) - Take a guided, behind-the-scenes tour of the new 194,000 sq. ft. structure, the first major laboratory to be built at UD in 20 years. The facility will provide much-needed teaching, classroom, research and laboratory space to the Newark campus. Limited space is available.

  • University of Delaware Bookstore (83 E. Main St.) 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Offering everything from cappuccino to computers, the new Barnes & Noble UD Bookstore—centrally located at Main and Academy streets in down¬town Newark—is open for business to the public and members of the campus community. We will also be hosting two book signings for Elementary Teacher Education alumni from 12-2 p.m. The first book is by Laurie Krebs, We're sailing Down the Nile and the second book is by Dianne Salerni, The Caged Graves.
  • "The Emancipation Proclamation" signed by Abraham Lincoln (Information Room on the First Floor of the Morris Library) 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • The University of Delaware Li¬brary owns an extremely rare copy of the signed broadside edition of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln and printed in Philadelphia in June 1864 to be sold as a fundraiser. Only about 20 copies are known to exist today.
  • Bring a Children’s Book (83 E. Main Street) 10 a.m.-noon
  • Bring a new children’s book to Alumni Weekend and drop it off at the Bookstore. This program is sponsored by the College of Education and Human Development.
  • Tracking the Perfect Storm: Hurricane Sandy and the Delaware Environmental Observing System (DEOS) (Gore Hall 104) 10-11 a.m.
  • Follow the weather systems and meteorological conditions that created the superstorm with Dr. Daniel Leathers, Professor of Geography and State Climatologist of Delaware. Based on the immediate information and analysis provided by DEOS, decision makers involved with emergency management, natural resource monitoring, transportation, and other activities were able to create a plan to protect the citizens in and around the State of Delaware. Visuals of the two storms colliding as well as before and after satellite images of the dramatic change to the Jersey Shore are not to be missed. This event is hosted by the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment.
  • Center for Economic Education & Entrepreneurship MAEEE Brunch (Alfred Lerner Hall Atrium) 10 a.m.-Noon
  • Join the CEEE Director and MAEEE program founder, Jim O’Neill, for brunch as he welcomes back all Master of Arts in Economics and Entrepreneurship for Educators alumni from the program’s 30+ year history. Reconnect with classmates, faculty and program supporters, share accomplishments and help celebrate Jim’s leadership of this unique, nationally recognized program as he prepares to pass the torch as the center’s director this summer. This event is free and open to the public.
  • Shabbat Morning Brunch hosted by Hillel (Kristol Center for Jewish Life, 47 W. Delaware Ave.) 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Blue Hens are invited for bagels and lox at the Kristol Center/UD Hillel. Reunite with old friends, meet some of the UD Hillel staff and hear how Jewish life is growing at UD. Whether you were involved or not with Hillel as a student, the Kristol Center looks forward to welcoming you.   • UD Wesley Foundation Campus Ministry Community Service Project (Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main St.) 10-11:30 a.m.
  • In the spirit of service, join us for a family-oriented service project Saturday morning benefitting our local community. As an outreach of the Friendship House in Wilmington, the Newark Empowerment Center provides assistance to the homeless in the greater Newark area. The center provides hospitality/survival services for clients as well as consultation and referral services to try to address issues in a strategic manner. The service project includes assembling the "Go Bag" bag lunches that are distributed to NEC clients. There will be a goodwill collection to help defray the cost of supplies.   • UD Slideshow & Historic Walking Tour with Professor David Ames (Gore Hall 103) 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Following a short slideshow, Professor Ames, director of the Center for Historic Architecture and Design, will lead a walking tour of main campus, explaining the unique history and architecture of UD. (Wear comfortable shoes.)
  • Zumba® (Independence Turf Field, Laird Campus) 10-11 a.m.
  • Pamela Yula ’87 will once again get the fitness party started during a complimentary work-out session on Laird campus. Follow the music out to the turf field for a fun, outdoor workout to start your day. This fitness class is sponsored by the College of Health Sciences.

The lunch will include the announcement of the new UDairy Creamery ice cream flavor made especially for Alumni Weekend. While the bees are really gentle this time of year, veils and other protective gear equipment will be provided for adventurous participants who want to go "hands-on."   • Mineralogical Museum: Colorado Rhodochrosites (Penny Hall) Noon-5 p.m.
  • Among the hundreds of gold and silver mines that operated in Colorado since the 1870s, many produced vivid red-pink rhodochrosite specimens. Although the Sweet Home Mine in Park County, CO is best known for the rhodochro¬site specimens mined during the 1990s, many other Colorado mines also have produced aesthetic examples of this manganese carbonate mineral. Specimens displayed are thanks to a generous loan from Dave Bunk.
