1. What is the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps?

Air Force ROTC is the largest and oldest source of commissioned officers in the United States Air Force. AFROTC'S mission is to produce leaders for the Air Force by recruiting, educating and commissioning officer candidates based on Air Force requirements. For more information go to the AFROTC web site.
2. What is your commitment following commissioning?

After you are commissioned, you will be required to serve a minimum of four years on active duty. Depending upon your career selection, you may be required to serve additional years (i.e. pilot, navigator, or air battle manager).
3. What is field training?

Field training, in most cases, is a mandatory four week summer training program focused on leadership skills, military bearing, physical conditioning, weapons practice, and survival training. It will hone and polish your strengths, giving you skills needed to be an Air Force officer. You will also receive junior officer training, career orientation, and learn about how the Air Force operates. Field Training usually takes place between your sophomore and junior year at a a selected Air Force Base in the United States.
4. How often do I wear my uniform?

At Det 128, cadets are required to wear one of their uniforms every Thursday during a normal semester. This includes regular classes in addition to the Air Force classes. Uniforms are also to be worn to PT sessions.
5. What is PT and when does it occur?

PT, or physical training, is a time when the entire cadet corps meets to maintain physical standards. This occurs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 - 7:30 AM at the Carpenter Sports Building (Little Bob). Cadets are required to attend a minimum of two times a week, but are encouraged to come to all three. Delaware State University cadets hold separate PT sessions at DSU.
6. What is Leadership Lab?

Leadership Lab (LLAB) occurs every Thursday from 3:30 - 5:30 PM. This is a mandatory class where officer skills are developed and fine-tuned. This course is instructed by junior and senior cadets with guidance from active duty officers.
7. What other activities are offered with AFROTC at the University of Delaware?

AFROTC at UD offers many extra activities for cadets. Examples include orientation flights, base visits, paint ball excursions, BBQ's, socials, banquets and many other fun events!
8. Where are the AFROTC offices located at UD?

The Air Force office, called the Detachment (Det), is located at 314 Wyoming Avenue, Newark, DE 19711.
9. What classes must I take while in AFROTC?

During the freshmen year, cadets will take the Aerospace Science 100 class (AS100). This class is offered from 11:00-12:15 on Tuesdays or from 2:00 - 3:15 on Thursdays. During sophomore year (AS200), classes are offered at the same times. The AS100 course number is AFSC 110 in the fall and AFSC 111 in the spring. Its title is Foundations of the Air Force. The AS200 course, titled Evolution of Air and Space Power, is AFSC 210 in the fall and AFSC 211 in the spring.
10. Do I have to attend University of Delaware?

No. Detachment 128 is associated with several schools including: University of Delaware, Wilmington College, Delaware State University, Goldey Beacom, Wesley College, Salisbury University, Delaware Technical Community College, Lincoln University. These schools are considered 'Cross-Town' Schools. The cadets who attend these schools, attend their regular classes there and attend the Leadership Lab and Aero-space class at the U of D.
