AAUP Executive Council
July 19, 2012
MEMBERS
PRESENT:
Diane Ferry, Brian Hanson, Calvin Keeler, Dave Smith, Tim Spaulding,
Gerry
Turkel, Danilo Yanich
ALSO PRESENT: Suzanne
Potts, Office Manager
Executive Session:
Reports were given by
Contract Maintenance Officer and
Grievance Officer.
Open Session:
Calvin announced that
he has had discussions with the
Provost regarding moving the AAUP Office.
The proposed location is 011F Hullihen Hall with a date of
July 30 proposed
for moving. Members of the Executive
Council felt that this location was unacceptable for the following
reasons:
confidentiality, lack of square footage, and it was a violation of the
CBA. It was determined that we would
notify the
Provost's Office that we could not make the July 30 deadline and Calvin
would
continue negotiations for an alternative space.
The Fall 2012
Executive Council meetings were scheduled as
follows:
Wednesday,
September 12, 10:30 am
Wednesday,
October 10, 10:30 am
Wednesday,
November 14, 10:30 am
Wednesday,
December 12, 10:30 am
The Steering
Committee membership needs to be updated. Nominations
will be requested at the
beginning of the Fall semester.
Newsletter items were
discussed and the following schedule
was agreed upon:
Early
September--Message from Calvin. Will
include: our Mission Statement; mention of our new office space;
reminder to
faculty that this is a contract year; offer to speak at Department or
College
meetings.
Late
September--Message from Gerry. What the
union does other than salary issues.
October--Message
from Dave. History of Article 11:5 and
how we got where we are.
Surveys for the Fall
were discussed. It was decided that there
should be no more
than 2 surveys. The surveys should be
philosophical and very directed. The
surveys will be conducted after the newsletters have explained the
issues at
hand. At least one of the surveys would
have open-ended questions. The first
survey would be sent out at the end of October and the second at the
end of
November. Council members would come up
with thoughts for questions by the September council meeting.
