Members Excused: Linda Bucher, Leon Campbell

The agenda was approved as submitted.

Meeting Dates:

The Executive Council will meet on Monday, March 9, April 13, and May 11 at 11:15 in 302 McDowell Hall.

Filling Vacancies:

Executive Council At-Large: Member(s) will be approached to determine interest in serving.

Joan DelFattore outlined a plan for recruitment. Among other things, department reps will be recruited and kept in the loop about AAUP issues. Each AAUP member will be asked to consider recruiting a new member, and newly hired faculty will be informed of the benefits of joining the AAUP via a follow-up e-mail and meeting after new faculty orientation.

Steering Committee: Department(s) membership was reviewed to fill vacant positions. Several members of the Executive Council will contact faculty for willingness to serve.

Department Representatives: An e-mail will be sent to members by department in the spring asking them to elect a department rep.

Treasurer’s Report:

Sheldon Pollack alerted the Executive Council that AAUP has a 12 per cent decrease in assets. This is attributed to the obligation made in 2006 to National for $25,000 of which $15,000 has been paid. He noted that an additional $2,000 AAUP Undergraduate Student Scholarship was awarded in 2008.

AAUP VOICE:

In an effort to reduce expenses Gerry Turkel said the newsletter will be published twice per semester. Copies of VOICE will be e-mailed to members and non-members. A hard copy and the e-mail version will be sent both ways for awhile in an effort to alert faculty of this change.

Next Meeting:
Monday, March 9, 2009 11:15am to 1:15pm

Respectfully submitted,
Pat Barber/rg
