Graduate Teaching Award
Eligibility, Application Procedures and Deadlines
This award involves collaboration between a University of Delaware faculty member and a University of Delaware graduate student. Each will need to submit separate application forms.

Eligibility for students:


All University of Delaware graduate students are eligible to apply.

Application Procedures for Students:


The following steps are required to apply for the award.

  • Download and print out the Graduate Teaching Award Faculty-Student Application Form.
  • Fill out the Graduate Teaching Award Application for Students and Faculty Sponsors. Complete the "Student Information" section and ask the faculty member with whom you will work to complete the "Faculty Member Information" section. The form requires both signatures. Give one copy to the faculty sponsor and keep one copy for yourself.
  • Print out a copy of your CV.
  • Write a brief essay (1-2 pages) to explain how this award will benefit your teaching.
  • Solicit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member other than the faculty sponsor with whom you plan to work.
  • Submit 3 hard copies of all application materials, including the Application Form, your CV, the essay and the letter of recommendation, to Dr. Jeannie Pfaelzer, Women's Studies (pfaelzer@udel.edu): and 1 hard copy of all application materials to Dr. Monika Shafi, Women's Studies (mshafi@udel.edu).

Application Deadline: 15 February 2009

Follow-up:
Award recipients will submit a course proposal and syllabus for a Women's Studies course, cross-listed with the student's home department. The syllabus should list the readings and course assignments to be as detailed as possible.

Follow-up Deadline: 1 September 2010

Eligibility for Faculty Sponsors:
All University of Delaware faculty members are eligible to serve as sponsors.

Application Procedures for Faculty Sponsors:

The following steps are required to serve as a Faculty Sponsor.

  • Complete the "Faculty Member Information" section of the Graduate Teaching Award Application for Students and Faculty Sponsors and sign it. Retain a copy and return the original to the student to include with her/his application materials.
  • Print out a copy of your CV.
  • Write a brief (1 page) proposal to explain how you will mentor the student.
  • Submit 3 hard copies of your CV and the proposal to Dr. Jeannie Pfaelzer, English Department, Memorial Hall (pfaelzer@udel.edu) and 1 hard copy to Dr. Monika Shafi, Women's Studies, 34 W. Delaware Ave. (mshafi@udel.edu).

  1. Application Form (download and print out from this site)
  2. Faculty-Student Agreement Form (signed by both faculty and student)
  3. CV
  4. A brief 1-page proposal explaining how you will mentor the student
