You should now have an icon on your Desktop like the one to the left.
Double-click the icon to begin the installation process.
Read the End User License Agreement and click the Accept button to continue.
Select the speed of your internet connection from the list.
If you are on campus ethernet network (i.e. dorm room), choose Office Lan.
If you are using a cable modem or a DSL modem, typically your speed will be DSL/Cable (768 Kbps).
If you are unsure what your connection speed is, choose 56.6 Kbps as this is the minimum
supported speed for the University of Delaware. (It can be changed later)
Why is this setting important?
It is important that you choose the proper speed of your internet connection. It allows UD to send the appropriate
streaming media that is matched for your connection speed. This helps prevent interruptions while
viewing streaming media.
Click Next to proceed.
The default installation location is preferred.
You may wish to uncheck some or all of the desktop settings based on your preference.
If you are unsure what to do, remove all check marks.
Your choice will have no effect on streaming media at UD.
Click Next to proceed.
You can use RealPlayer to play a variety of other media file formats. You may wish to
adjust your settings based on your preference.
If you are unsure what to do, remove all check marks.
Your choice will have no effect on streaming media at UD but may adjust the way your computer plays different types of media.
Click Finish to proceed.
If requested to do so, click OK to restart your computer. After your
computer restarts, the RealPlayer installation should resume automatically.
RealPlayer includes the RealToolbar for Internet Explorer. You may wish to include this
feature based on your preference.
If you are unsure what to do, choose Disable this feature.
Your choice will have no effect on streaming media at UD.
Click Continue to proceed.
It is not necessary to register RealPlayer. You may simply click on Cancel to proceed.
Again, it is not necessary to register RealPlayer. You may simply click on Exit to proceed.
RealPlayer should now play an introductory clip.
Some adjustments need to be made to RealPlayer before you can begin viewing streaming media.
Click on the Tools menu and mouse down to Preferences.
In the Category pane on the left, find Playback Settings. If it is not showing, you may
need to double-click General first.
Find TurboPlay on the right side and uncheck the box next to Enable TurboPlay.
Why do I need to change this setting?
This setting may interfere with streaming media courses that include synchronized PowerPoint causing slides to be delayed.
To ensure slides are not delayed, it is recommended that this setting be disabled.
Click OK to proceed.
You have completed the installation and proper configuration of RealPlayer 10. The installation program on your desktop (from Step 1) may now be safely be moved to the Recycle Bin.
If you would like to learn how
to disable RealPlayer's Message Center, continue to Step 10.
Otherwise, proceed to Test the Player.
From time to time, RealNetworks
may send messages or advertisements through RealPlayer via the RealPlayer
Message Center.
If you would prefer not to receive these messages, follow these steps.
If the Preferences window is not open, open it by following step 8.
In the Category pane on the left, find Message Center. If it is not showing, you may need to double-click Automatic Services first.
Find the Configure Message Center button on the right side and click it.
Uncheck all checkboxes in the window shown. Click OK.
Click Yes to accept the Message Center changes.
Click OK to exit the Preferences window.
You have successfully installed RealPlayer. Now proceed to
Test the Player.
