The University has its own cable television system. The cable system
extends to all classrooms, lounges and dining areas and all residence
halls.
- Take a look at Channel 2,
the University of Delaware 24 hr/day
information channel designed to provide you with information on a variety
of events and topics.
- Channel 20, the TV Guide Channel,
offers an hourly listing of commercial
channels available on the University's system.
- Channel 48 carries University of Delaware academic
programming.
- Channel 49, Student Television Network, carries
programming produced and/or selected by University of Delaware students.
- Channel 52 offers Technology Help
from UD. You'll find information on buying a computer, getting connected
on campus and using software.
Currently, the University's cable system receives local
network-affiliated broadcast channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, etc.),
"super station" broadcast channels (WTBS, and WGN), and
many satellite cable channels (for example, CNN, ESPN, MTV, BET, SCOLA).
Campus cable channels run from Channel 2 through Channel 64.
Cable TV in Residence Halls
The campus cable television system reaches all residence halls. Every
residence hall room is wired for Cable TV so you can take advantage of the
cable system in your room or apartment. The cable system also improves
your FM radio reception for stations from Philadelphia to Baltimore.
You will find a tent card listing the available television channels and
FM stations in your room and from
this website.
If your cable TV service stops working, please
follow the instructions on this tent card.
What You Need to Hook Up Your TV
To hook up your television, VCR and FM tuner or receiver, you need one
or more of the following items (which are available at the University
Bookstore; the Christiana, Harrington, and Rodney Convenience Markets; or
a local electronics store).
- Cable with cable TV-type ("f") fitting. You need a
length of coaxial cable to connect your equipment to the wall outlet.
- A splitter. The wall outlet to the cable system allows for only
one item in the television plug. If you wish to install both a TV/VCR set
up and an FM tuner or receiver, you need a splitter to create two plugs.
- Matching transformer. If your TV or VCR is over two years old,
it may have a twin lead VHF fitting with two screw terminals instead of a
single "f" fitting. If so, you need a matching transformer to
convert your two-screw fitting to a single coaxial "f" fitting.
The campus cable system accepts cable-ready TVs and VCRs as well as
limited-channel TVs (Channels 2-13 only). The best solution to fully
access all cable TV programming is to bring a cable-ready television to
campus. Using a VCR as a tuner may interfere with reception of selected
programming due to copy protection systems used by some program
providers.
For repairs to TV cable connections, call (302) 831-6000, or use the service request form to report problems.
