Student Information System
Glossary: H - P
- Homepage
- The page that first appears when a user accesses the portal.
- Honors and Awards
- The ability to record student internal and external awards within the UDSIS system.
- I-20

- IAP-66
- Certificate of Eligibility issued by an institution to international students, professors, researchers, guest lecturers, and so on who require a J-1 visa. Institutions must be approved by the United States Information Agency (USIA) to issue these forms.
- ID
- Student ID given to every student, applicant or prospect. It is 9 digits and is NOT the person’s Social Security Number. It can also be called an Empl ID.
- Implementation Partner
- Consultants hired to help successfully implement PeopleSoft on time, within scope, and within budget. The Cedar Group is UD’s implementation partner on the UDSiS project.
- Inquiry
- Capability that allows an end-user to view certain information based on a defined set of criteria.
- Interface
- Method by which data is electronically transmitted from one computer system to another. Also, the languages, codes, and messages programs use to communicate with each other and to the hardware.
- Key
- One or more fields that uniquely identify each row in a table. Some tables contain only one field as the key, while others require a combination.
- Last Group
- Last tuition group for which a customer's tuition and fees were calculated. If the system detects a different group, it backs out all tuition and fees that were generated automatically and recalculates the complete set of fees.
- Learning Management
- A series of organized Self-Service pages which most efficiently allow users to access admissions and student records information for a specific student.
- Legacy System
- Current system (SIS+) that will be replaced by the new PeopleSoft system (UDSiS).
- Location
- Location is a physical place or address, usually associated with a building cluster. Some clients have only one location, but most have satellite locations where classes are offered. In Student Financials, location is the physical register number at a window.
- Matched Pair
- When the PS repeat checking program is run, it looks for “matched pairs” of courses. These are pairs of repeated or equivalent courses found on a student’s enrollment history. It then determines which of the matched pair is better. Generally, this is the one with the higher grade regardless of credit hours.
- Matriculation
- Matriculation in the new UDSIS system means the student’s Admission record has been “frozen” in and the ownership of the data has been transferred to the Student Records module. Students must be matriculated prior to the Term Activation Process and both Matriculation and Term Activation must occur prior to Transfer Credit and Test Credit is “officially posted” to the Students Academic Record.
- Milestone
- A benchmark in a student’s academic history. It does not necessarily need to be a course related event. Examples include: NCATE Exam, Candidacy
- Modification (Mods)
- Changes to the vanilla version of the PeopleSoft software. Each time a modification is made, it adds to the complexity, time, and cost of upgrading the software.
- Modules
- Groupings of software programs that collectively support a specific business function.
- Multi-currency
- The ability to process transactions in a currency other than the business unit's base currency.
- Name Type
- A name type is a label assigned to an individual's name. Degree name type, indicating the name that a graduate wants printed on the diploma, and maiden name type are two examples.
- National ID
- Social Security Number when the country is USA. This is no longer a student’s identifying number.
- Operator
- Person's ID that is assigned to a particular register and transacts business with the system.
- On-line Object
- Software that makes up the on-line part of the application. Fields, Records, Pages, Components, Menus, and more.
- Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)
- "Real time" system where all transactions occur and reporting is limited.
- Operator Security
- PS security structure that provides each user with an Operator ID. Each user's ID is grouped with IDs of users performing similar tasks within similar positions. This security structure limits users' access rights to relevant functionality within the application.
- Page
- A PeopleSoft term for a “screen” or “window” where data is entered or viewed by the end-user.
- Pagelet
- Each block of content on the homepage. These pagelets display summary information within a small rectangular area on the page. The pagelet provide users with a snapshot of their most relevant PeopleSoft and non-PeopleSoft content.
- Partition
- Each detail line in an equation or each set of detail lines grouped by parentheses. This concept is used in the Academic Advisement application.
- PC (Parent Contribution)

- Pell Grant
- A federal grant to provide funds based on the student's financial need and does not have to be repaid.
- PeopleCode event
- An action that a user takes upon an object, usually a record field, which is referenced within a PeopleSoft page.
- Posted Transfer Credit
- Transfer and Test Credit from a specific Institution and Articulation term or Test Score and Articulation Term that is an Official part of the Student’s Academic Record. This can not happen until the student record has been Matriculated by Admissions and Term Activated.
- Pre-condition
- A filter that is used to restrict the use of a requirement to a particular type of student. This concept is used in the Academic Advisement application and by Student Records in the creation of prerequisites or co-requisites.
- Primary Name Type
- This name type is used to link the name stored at the highest level within the system to the set of names—at a lower level—that the individual has provided.
- Primacy Number
- The system uses the number to prioritize financial aid applications when students are enrolled in multiple Academic Careers and Academic Program at the same time. The Consolidate Academic Statistics process uses the primacy number indicated on both the career and program at the institutional level to determine a student's primary career and program. The system also uses the number to determine the primary Student Attribute Value it will use when you extract data to report on cohorts. The lowest number takes precedence.
- Process
- A set of linked activities that create a result.
- Process Scheduler
- The functionality used to schedule and kick-off tasks behind the scenes of the application. It can run several kinds of processes, such as COBOL or Crystal, on a regular schedule, upon request, at a workstation, or on a server.
- Production Database
- The area where all business transactions occur in a real time fashion.
