Phone Repairs

Phone repairs should be reported directly to the Help Center at x6000 or send a repair request utilizing the IT Help Center Help Request Form. Report the phone number and/or equipment that is having the problem, describe the problem, where the phone line is located (building and room number), who the contact person should be and an alternate number for the contact person.

Rates
Universty of Delaware phone technician rates - $45.00 per hour.
Minimum charge of 30 minutes at $22.50, with 10 minute incremental charges after the initial 30 minutes.

Monthly recurring line charge rate - $15.00 per number.
This includes voicemail if desired and all individual phone number

Most frequently reported trouble and the questions you may be asked are the following:

NO DIAL TONE

  • What type of phone is used?
  • Have you tried another set?
  • Make sure the mounting and receiver cords are in tight.

STATIC

  • What type of phone is used?
  • Have you tried another set?
  • Make sure the mounting and receiver cords are in tight.

PHONE NOT RINGING

  • Have you checked the ringer switch on/off positions?
  • Are calls being forwarded to another number?
  • What type of phone is used?

PHONE RINGS ONCE GOES TO VOICE MAIL

  • Are calls being forwarded to another number?

BUZZING SOUND

  • Are buttons sticking?
  • Is sound like a fax or modem tone?

LINE GOES DEAD WHILE TALKING

  • Does this happen at the same time of day or night?
  • What type of phone is being used?
  • Have you tried another set?

FAX MACHINE PROBLEMS

  • Is the fax machine turned on and programmed with all of the proper settings?
  • When you pick up the fax handset, is there dial tone? If yes, have someone call you and dial out using the fax as a telephone. Are you able to make and receive voice calls?
  • Have you checked to make sure the fax line cord is plugged into the phone jack?
  • Have you tried an analog phone in the phone jack? Does the phone line make and receive calls?
