The University of Delaware Department of Public Safety offers several employment opportunities for students. They are: Student Police Aide: Work closely with the Police and Security Divisions of the Department of Public Safety. Provide escorts, patrol campus, secure buildings, and assist with security at campus events. The Student Police Aide program provides a unique opportunity to learn about and work with one of the largest police agencies in the state. Students interested in a career in law enforcement will find the experience particularly valuable, but students of all majors and interests are encouraged to apply. As we are a police agency, applicants must undergo a criminal history and reference check. Applicants should be aware that our shifts are almost entirely late night hours, working until at least two in the morning. Also, all new hires can expect at least one permanent shift on a Friday or Saturday night. Please note that the Student Police Aide program is separate from the Parking Enforcement Officers. Base rate of pay starts at $9.00 per hour, however most assignments
rate of pay is $10.00 per hour. Applicants must be available to work
nights and weekends. Parking Enforcement Officer: Parking Enforcement is a part-time
position. Hours are available 7 days a week during the academic year,
with reduced hours in the summer. Duties include enforcing university
parking regulations, directing traffic for special events and other
duties as assigned. Uniforms and training are provided. Applicants
must possess the ability to work without direct supervision, be self-motivated,
and have the ability to make independent judgments. This is an outdoor
position and employees are exposed to weather conditions. Starting
rate of $9.25/hr. Cashier: Cashiering is a part time miscellaneous wage position.
Cashiers work an average of 12-17 hours per week. They use a cash
register for business transactions as patrons leave the parking lot
or garage. Employees will also be trained on how to load and un-jam
tickets from the equipment. Customer service includes giving directions
to different areas on and off campus such as where to eat and how
to get back to I-95. Candidates must be on time, neat in appearance,
well mannered, and possess basic math skills. All employees must pass
a semiannual background check. Base pay rate is $9.00/hr with a premium
rate of $9.25 for shifts starting before 6:30 AM or ending after 11
