The University of Delaware's Police Department continuously accepts resumes from motivated applicants for the position of Police Officer, which provides all law enforcement services to the University Community. This 40 hour per week position will work a rotating shift with varied days off. We are located halfway between Washington, DC and New York and we offer a comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, cost of uniforms, and Tuition Remission for eligible employees and their dependents. Starting salary is $39K, increased to $41K upon completion of academy training. Requires an Associate's degree or equivalent credits (minimum 60 credits); one year's acceptable performance as a security or law enforcement officer preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age at completion of academy training.

Potential Police Officer candidates are asked to verify they meet the minimum requirements prior to submitting an application for employment. The University of Delaware Police Department is a fully certified police agency, and as such must meet the standards set by the State of Delaware for law enforcement officers. This requires that an individual:

" be 21 years of age prior to completion of academy training;
" hold United States citizenship;
" demonstrate completion of 60 college credits;
" possess a valid drivers license with no suspensions within the last five years;
" pass a medical examination;
" pass a physical agility test;
" pass a psychological examination;
" pass an extensive background investigation;
" pass a basic police training program certified by the Delaware Council on Police Training;
" complete a probationary period of employment.
