Attendance / Clicker Responses P/F

  • Attendance:  This course is a required course and attendance at all classes is mandatory and all students must “Pass” each administration of Rounds in the Curriculum.   Student attendance will be verified by clicker participation.  Students are expected to arrive promptly and stay until the end of the presentation.
Excused Absences:  Absences are considered excused for illness (with MD note), bereavement of family member, or prior approval from instructor for extenuating circumstances.  To obtain approval, a student must contact the assigned Faculty member for the rounds in question and provide rationale and any requested documentation for being excused from the rounds class. (See Web schedule for the appropriate Faculty contact)   Only upon approval of the Faculty member can an absence be excused.   An excused absence will generate a “0” grade for that class; however, it will not be averaged into the final grade for the administration period.
Unexcused Absence:  Any absence that does not qualify as an excused absence is an unexcused absence.   An unexcused absence will generate a “0” grade for that class which will be averaged into the final grade for the administration period.

3 or more missed rounds in a given rounds administration (regardless of the combination of excused or unexcused) will result in a fail for the class. (See Note Below on Retaking of the Class)

  • Grading:  Learning outcome assessment will occur throughout Rounds.  Through the use of “clickers” students will be evaluated based on their clicker responses to questions posed during rounds.  Scores will be prorated for questions at appropriate academic levels in the curriculum.  The lowest grade will be dropped in the final grade assessment for each Rounds Administration (1 dropped grade per Administration).  This dropped grade is provided to account for the many things that can happen (lost keys, overslept, forgot clicker in other bag, friend’s wedding etc.) Do not squander this opportunity as the unexpected can and does happen and these are not considered excused absences.    Any missed Rounds or lack of participation due to clicker issues will result in a grade of “0” for that class.   A passing score for each Rounds class will be determined based on performance and the pro-rating of question content.  A final passing score will be the average of all passing scores for each individual class in a given Rounds Administration.  In the event a student does not pass, one additional opportunity will be made for the student to be tested again (however, format may vary).  A failure on the second administration results in retaking the class
