Multiple Sclerosis Functional
The functional screening evaluation is sponsored by the Delaware Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and is provided free to individuals with multiple sclerosis and is designed to assist you in managing your life with MS. This program is for individuals who have not had a functional screening evaluation with a physician, physical Therapist, etc. in 1-2 years.
The evaluation is performed at the University of Delaware PT Clinic by Masters of Physical Therapy students under the close supervision of Ken Seaman, PT, Academic Coordinator for Clinical Education. Mr. Seaman is also a medical staff member of the Jimmie Huega Center, a non-profit organization dealing with Multiple Sclerosis, and serves as a consultant for those with MS in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
The evaluation lasts
approximately 1.5 hours and consists of strength and range of motion testing
as well as an evaluation of activities that are specific to each person
such as walking, transferring from wheelchair to mat, sit to stand and
more. Participants in the functional screening evaluation should
wear comfortable loose clothing and supportive footwear. Each
individual is provided with the results of the evaluation and given recommendations
to improve his or her current functional level.
