Baptist Medical Center Columbia is a 500 bed acute care facility, located in Columbia, SC. Clients are 70% in-patient, 30% out-patient. Patient diagnoses include a high level of orthopedics with a variety in nature, neurological (CVA, Parkinson, acute spinal injuries-often due to CA) as well as general medical surgical problems, acute MIs and wound care. There is also a subacute rehab facility within the complex. Students are encouraged to pick a variety of patients according to their needs. Should a student wish, it is possible to spend a day observing. Students also have the option of attending surgery.

Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital is a 649-bed teaching hospital and level 1 trauma center. The hospital is located in Columbia, SC. When traveling, one can reach the mountains or the beach in two hours. Students have the opportunity to evaluate and treat adult and pediatric patients with multiple diagnoses. Generally, patient types fall into the following categories: Medical/surgical (general med./surg., multi-trauma, cardiac, oncology, amputees, and wound care); Orthopedic (general orthopedic, total joint replacements, multi-trauma); Neurological (traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, CVA's, neuromuscular diseases). On the first day of the affiliation, the student should report to the clinical instructor at 8:00 in the Rehabilitative Services Dept located on the second floor of the main hospital. Students should expect a workday to be 8:00 to 5:00. Start and finish times may vary somewhat according to the clinical instructor. Housing is available at the Smith House free of charge (depending on availability). Students should contact the CCCE well in advance if housing is needed. Keys to the Smith House are available for pick up the Sunday prior to the start of the affiliation in the Security Dept. located on the first floor of the main hospital. The hospital cafeteria offers discounted meals (approx. $2.50 per meal). Please see the departmental policy on dress code. Directions: I-95 to Florence, SC then I-20 to Columbia; once in Columbia take 277 off I-20. 277 becomes Bull Street at the first red light (which is at the intersection of Bull & Harden Street). A 210 bed JCAH accredited community hospital located in Titusville, Florida, a community of 45, 000 directly adjacent to the Kennedy Space Center. The hospital provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment services, and provides emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Hershey Medical Center is a 504 bed hospital complex which includes acute care, 36 adult and pediatric rehab beds, and a Children's Hospital.  Student affiliations are available in acute care, outpatient, rehab and peds as well as sports medicine and the diabetic foot clinic. Students will be expected to present an inservice to the staff during their affiliation, and will have access to the medical schools library. There are opportunities to observe surgery, observe other disciplines, participate in team meetings, rounds, and assist with patient outings.

505 bed acute care/teaching facility located in Center City, Philadelphia. Easily accessible via regional rail lines, high speed line and buses. Patient care is divided between inpatient, outpatient, 18 bed acute rehab unit and a 22-bed skilled care facility. Inpatient population includes orthopaedics (heavy emphasis on joint replacement), CVAs, amputees, cardiac, oncology and general med-surg patients. Outpatient population includes mainly orthopaedic and neurological diagnoses. Both in and outpatient populations are primarily geriatric, except for orthopaedics which varies. There is no inpatient pediatrics. We have a Movement Disorders Center located in our Neurological Center, which specializes in Parkinson's Disease. We also have an ALS clinic. The acute rehab unit treates majority ortho patients, along with CVAs, general med and a growing number of amputees.
Students will have the opportunity to attend staff meetings, inservices, discharge planning conferences and observe surgery. We also have monthly orthopaedic prep classes and diabetic outpatient teaching classes. Students will be assigned to an area that will provide the clinical experience best suited for him/her. Students affiliating for four or more weeks are expected to present in inservice to the staff.

149 bed hospital with a 20 bed Geriatric Evaluation/rehabilitation unit and two nursing home care units located 30 min south of Newark DE. Heavy emphasis in geriatric care with three Physical Therapy clinics (outpatient and inpatient). Clinical rotation is inpatient and sees general medicine; post-op orthopaedics, stroke patients, some spinal cord, amputees, and Cardiac-Pulmonary patients. Learning experiences include monthly departmental in-services, home evaluations, Chesapeake Health Education Program ($5 per course), wheel chair clinic, Aqua Therapy pool, and multi-disciplinary team conferences. Specialty areas include Cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation (phase I-II), and wheelchair adaptive work. Students will spend a majority of their time working with pts on the GEM unit or the nursing home care unit.
On the GEMU (NGRIP rotation) the patients are discharged to home 50% of the time and 50% to nursing homes and community residences. The length of stay on average is two to three months. These patients are covered by an interdisciplinary team that includes:  physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, social work, skilled nursing, physicians and physician assistants, gero-psychology, nutrition service, pastoral care. The unit will provide the opportunity to follow patients for extended times throughout a clinical internship.
On NHCU (Geriat rotation) the patients are screened and assessed for rehabilitation potential by the physical therapist and treated if appropriate for physical therapy. 70% of patients are permanent residences on the NHCU. 30% will be discharged to home, community NHCU or community residences for continued care at the patients maximal functional level. These patients are also covered by an interdisciplinary team similar to the GEMU.

Phoenixville Hospital is a 140-bed, acute care, community hospital located 25 miles from Philadelphia, adjacent to Valley Forge National Park. The PT department treats inpatients. Diagnoses include orthopedic surgery, CVA, wound care, and general deconditioning. Outpatient diagnosis include orthopedic impairments of the shoulder, cervical spine, lumbar spine, hip, knee, and foot and ankle . Neurological impairments are also seen. The inpatient department has a dedicated yet informal atmosphere. Patient care hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., although student hours will depend upon those of the Cl. The hospital has two outpatient satelite sites. One is located in Phoenixville and the other is located in Limerick. The outpatient facility at Limerick staffs 4 PTs and 2 PTAs. It is a 5800 square-foot site. It is located off the 422 bypass at the Limerick/Linfield exit. The outpatient facility at Phoenixville Hospital staffs 6 PTs and 1 PTA. It is a 4000 square-foot site. Physiotherapy Associates Scottsdale Sports Clinic is an outpatient orthopaedic and sports physical therapy clinic located in the northern area of Scottsdale in Arizona. Currently, the clinic is staffed with two full time physical therapists, one athletic trainer, and three technicians. The clinicians see a wide variety of orthopaedic and sports injuries, with emphasis placed primarily on shoulder rehabilitation, with patients ranging from student athletes to Medicare patients, including some professional athletes. Fabrication of upper extremity splints and custom foot orthotics are provided, and the clinic also has a heavy emphasis on isokinetic testing and training. Biomechanical analysis may also be utilized with some patients. No housing or meal stipend is provided. The clinic is located near many restaurants and a refrigerator/microwave are also provided for lunches. Located on the northwest side of Columbus, it is easy access to shopping, grocery, and housing if needed. Our facility works with the entire age range from youth to elderly. Specializing in sports as well as general orthopedics, a wide range of diagnosis are possible. It is common to see ankle and knee strains and sprains, total joint replacements, ligament reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, as well as the entire range of spinal diagnosis.
