Sports Residency Training Program


  • Those eligible for physical therapy licensure in the State of Delaware (Delaware State link)
  • One of the following: a current ATC designation; a current license as an EMT, or certification as an Emergency Responder
  • APTA membership required throughout residency
  • International applicants
  • Domestic Students Pending Graduation:
    • Board exam has to be completed within 2 weeks of beginning residency (FSBPT link)
  • Application Deadlines and Materials (see below)
  • Computer proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint


The Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Programs each have two different starting times within the year. One resident accepted for the Sports Residency and one resident accepted for the Orthopedic Residency will start in January. The other two residents selected to begin the Sports and Orthopedic residencies will start in June of the same year.

Application Deadlines

Residency Terms (13.5 months):

  • January 1-February 15
    • Application materials due September 1
    • Interview dates: September 15- October 7
  • June 1-July 15
    • Applications materials due February 1
    • Interview dates: February 15 -March 7

Early Decision Process for January 1st start date:

  • For University of Delaware Graduates
  • Application materials due by March 30th
  • If this residency is filled through early admission, the application deadline will be posted as closed by April 30th
