Association recognizes two accounting faculty

Clinton "Skip" White (left) and Kent St. Pierre

Kent St. Pierre, accounting chair, and Clinton (Skip) White, also accounting, received awards from the American Accounting Association (AAA) at its annual yearly national conference in August at New Orleans.

St. Pierre was recognized with an award and plaque for substantial contribution to the field of accounting education for the past 14 years, and White was presented with the Outstanding Service Award, in recognition of being the founding webmaster for the AAA.

Since 1985, St. Pierre has been the editor of the Journal of Accounting Education, the first educational journal in the accounting field and produced by the International Association for Accounting Education and Research. He also has served as president of the teaching curriculum committee of AAA.

The Outstanding Service Award, which had not been awarded since 1996, went to White for his service on several high-level strategic planning committees for information technologies at AAA. He also has taught workshops and seminars over the past four years, nationally and internationally, to accountants on the basics of the Internet and using it to build a learning environment.

"I am heading the information technology initiative in the dean's office of the College of Business and Economics, in conjunction with the state of Delaware," White said. "The goal is to turn this state into an attractive high technology state."

St. Pierre came to the University in 1993 as accounting chair. He teaches classes for undergraduates and in the MBA program. His research focus is legal liability for the accounting profession.

He serves on the board of the University Credit Union and is active in school, church and community groups.

White has served on the UD faculty since 1987. His research focus is the application of information technologies to education and the business community. White teaches courses on advanced auditing on computers, system analysis and connections.
