103rd birthday celebrated at Adult Day Services Center

Dorothy DeLude of Newark recently celebrated her 103rd birthday at the University of Delaware's Adult Day Services Center, located in a wing of the Newark Senior Center. Wearing her favorite hat and a velvet wrap from her younger days in her native Brooklyn, DeLude blew out the candles at this party on Oct. 15-the first of three events family and friends were planning to celebrate her Oct. 16 birthday. Born in 1895, DeLude worked in an ink factory in Brooklyn and had three children. She moved to Newark to live with her daughter, Mary Ellen Gerard six years ago. Up until that time, family members say she cooked and cleaned house regularly.
