Menopause info
The Employee Wellness Center will sponsor a talk on menopause from noon-1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23, in Room 303 Gore Hall. The speaker, Dr. Paul Kaminski, works at the Christiana Care Women's Health Center and specializes in issues of the postreproductive female.

Mentors needed
First State Mentor Corps (FSMC), an AmeriCorps National Service Project, is recruiting new members.

Information will be provided at a series of meetings scheduled at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Room 207 Willard Hall Education Building; noon, Thursday, Oct. 22 in Room 207 Willard Hall Education Building; 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Room 311 Willard Hall Education Building; and noon, Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.

The program is ideal for freshmen or sophomores interested in participating in a locally-based, public school mentoring program. After completing AmeriCorps training, a FSMC member will work closely with school staff and administration, dedicating mentoring time to help elementary or middle school students increase levels of academic performance and self-esteem. AmeriCorps members also will be instrumental in the recruitment and training of other volunteers to foster the growth of the mentoring program. Some of the FSMC benefits include field experience, educational financial assistance and team building information, community service programs and leadership skills training.

Managing money
Families or individuals with limited resources are able to enroll in New Castle County Cooperative Extension Financial Management Training program. The four-part series will address how to identify a problem and then correct it. Other topics will include debt reduction, budget skills, debt collection processes and dealing with creditors.

Classes will be held from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Mondays, Nov. 2-23, in the Wilmington Downtown Center. Cost is $80 to cover materials. Preregistration is required. Call 831-COOP for details and to register.

Ellis Island trip
The Delaware Association for Family and Community Education is sponsoring a trip to Ellis Island and Liberty Park on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The excursion is open to the public.

The bus will depart from New Castle County at 8 a.m. Cost is $55 per person and covers bus transportation, ferry ride, guided tour and dinner. The bus will return to New Castle County by 9 p.m.
