Weekend filled with Homecoming events

The cheerleaders will help raise spirit during this weekend's Homecoming celebration.
Blue Hen football and everybody's favorite good sport Bill Cosby highlight this year's Homecoming Weekend celebration. Other athletic events, art exhibits and alumni tailgates round out a weekend of fun scheduled from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 2-4.
The Fightin' Blue Hens will battle Northeastern University on Saturday with the kickoff at 1 p.m. in Delaware Stadium. Block seating is available for reunion classes and special interest groups. For tickets, call UD1-HENS.
America's best-loved funnyman, Bill Cosby, returns to UD for a performance at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, in the Bob Carpenter Center. Tickets are $35 each and are available at all UD box offices and through TicketMaster by calling 984-2000. A convenience charge may apply.

Friday, Oct. 2
- Homecoming Carnival and Pep Rally-2-5 p.m., Harrington Beach. This event includes music, food and fun. Student organizations and Greek chapters will provide games, activities and other attractions. The UD Marching Band, Precision Dance Team, Cheerleaders and YoUDee will provide entertainment.
- Women's field hockey-UD vs. the University of Vermont, 3:30 p.m., David M. Nelson Athletic Complex. For tickets and more information call UD1-HENS.
- Women's soccer-UD vs. the University of Maine, 4 p.m., Fred P. Rullo Stadium. For tickets and more information call UD1-HENS.
Saturday, Oct. 3
- 5K Homecoming Run/Walk-9 a.m. This USATF-certified course takes participants for a trek down Creek Road, Newark. T-shirts and a post-race reception will be provided for all participants in the eighth annual event. Registration will be held from 8-8:45 a.m. at the corner of North College Avenue and Ray Street. The entry fee is $9 for UD students and $10 for others. For information and a registration form, call Marathon Sports at 654-6400.
- Art Exhibition-11 a.m.-5 p.m., University Gallery, Old College "Forgotten Marriage: The Painted Tintype and the Decorative Frame, 1860-1910" and "Wonders of Russia: Icons and Minerals from University of Delaware Collection." Free.
- Art Exhibition-1-5 p.m., Department of Art Gallery, 102 Recitation Hall. "Carnival of Fun: Prints by Sergio Soave." Free.
- Reunion Row-Tailgates for reunion classes and special interest groups begin at 11 a.m. at Reunion Row, located in the practice fields behind Delaware Field House. Catered lunches to-go will be available for pick-up in Reunion Row from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Reunion Row will include special tents for the Classes of 1998, 1993, 1988, 1983,1978, 1973, 1968, 1963, 1958 and 1953.
- College Reunions-Special reunion tents have been arranged for alumni of various colleges. For more information on the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences reunion tent, call 831-2501; for the College of Arts and Science reunion tent, call 831-2351; for the College of Business and Economics reunion tent, call 831-2551. (The College of Business and Economics Award of Excellence presentation will be held at 10 a.m. in MBNA America Hall. For more information call 831-2551.)
The College of Health and Nursing Sciences will hold a reunion brunch for members of the Classes of 1973 and 1978 at the Blue & Gold Club. Its reunion tent for all alumni will be located in Reunion Row. For more information call 831-2381.
The College of Human Resources, Education and Public Policy- Outstanding Alumni Award Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in Alison Hall. For more information call 831-2301. A Reunion Row tent for all friends and alumni of the college also will be available. For more information call 831-2394.
- Special Reunions-Gatherings will be held for a number of interest groups. Cheerleading alumni, call 831-1437; football letterman, call 737-5060; residence life alumni, call 831-2417; and study abroad alumni, call 831-2852.
- Center For Black Culture Picnic and Reunion-1-5 p.m. featuring the annual Kappa Alpha Psi Homecoming Step Show. For more information, call 831-2991.
- Goal Post Party-Immediately after the football game for all alumni and friends at the Delaware Field House. This event will include music by Burnt Sienna and refreshments for all participants. Cash bar will be available. Admission is free.

Sunday, Oct. 4
- UD Women's field hockey game-UD vs. Towson University on the UD athletic fields, David M. Nelson Athletic Complex, starting at noon. For more information call UD1-HENS.
