Crime alert

At approximately 9:40 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, a University student was accosted and sexually assaulted as she jogged on Paper Mill Road. The suspect was described as a white male 5'5" to 5'8" tall.

At approximately 11 p.m., Thursday Sept. 24, a University student was accosted in the driveway of her residence on New London Road by a white male. She managed to resist her attacker, and he fled.

A short time later, a suspect was apprehended by the Newark Police and charged in this assault. An investigation is currently being conducted by the Newark Police to determine if this suspect was responsible for the assault on Paper Mill Road and for an attempted assault that took place on Creek Road about a mile from campus on Friday, Sept. 18.

All members of the campus community are cautioned to walk with other persons whenever possible, to make use of the campus transit system or to call Public Safety at 831-2222 for its on campus walk-along escort service.

If walking alone cannot be avoided, students and staff should stay on well-traveled and well-lit sidewalks or pathways
