Campus singing groups will be featured in two concerts during the annual Songfest, to be presented at 4:30 and 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, in Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
The program features the UD Chorale, directed by Paul Head; University Singers, directed by Ruth Oatman; and a number of a cappella groups, including the Golden Blues, Vision, Deltones, Y Chromes and Overtones.
Selections will range from classical to pop. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

400 musicians in Calliope III
The third annual Calliope concert will be presented at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, in Mitchell Hall.This one-of-a-kind concert features nearly 400 student musicians in a fast-paced kaleidoscope of musical sounds. The evening begins before the concert with the Delaware Steel Band on the steps of Mitchell Hall. The program showcases all the music department's student ensembles-jazz, wind, choirs, orchestras and more.
Featured are a series of nonstop performances from the stage, balconies and floor of Mitchell Hall that are pleasing to both ears and eyes. It ends with a finale featuring the Fightin' Blue Hen Marching Band.
General admission is $10, and all proceeds benefit the Department of Music Scholarship Fund.

'Faculty, students to perform jazz
A Jazz Week series will feature a number of concerts during October in Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. All begin at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public.On Monday, Oct. 5, there will be a performance by UD jazz faculty members Vernon James, saxophone; Alan Hamant, trumpet; Jay Hildebrandt, trombone; Jim Ancona, drums; and Al Start, bass.
Jazz Ensemble II, a big band group directed by Tom Palmer, will perform Tuesday, Oct. 13, in a concert featuring a wide variety of musical styles.
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Hildebrandt, will present an "All Ellington" concert, featuring music written for the Duke Ellington Orchestra, in tribute to its leader or by the Duke himself.
The series concludes on Thursday, Oct. 15, with a performance by the Jazz Chamber Ensemble, directed by James. The concert will include songs by John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins and others.

The Department of History's Alumni Lecture Series will begin with a presentation by Jerry W. Bentley at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, in Room 125 Clayton Hall.A professor of history at the University of Hawaii, Bentley will speak on "Globalization in Historical Perspective." He is the editor of The Journal of World History and the author of Old World Encounters: Cross-Cultural Contacts and Exchanges in Pre-Modern Times.
The lecture is made possible by the generosity of history department alumni and the Faculty Senate Committee on Cultural Activities and Public Events.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to the fourth annual Travel Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, in Multipurpose Room C, Trabant University Center. Sponsored by University Travel Services, the fair will offer drawings to win giveaways.In addition to University Travel Service personnel, representatives from other companies in the travel industry will be present. Drawing prizes include airline and rail tickets, hotel accommodations and shuttle services.
