Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, picks up trash on Cleveland Avenue.

University students joined with Newark residents Sept. 13, to help keep Newark clean and green. Volunteers gathered at Frazer Field then walked to Cleveland Avenue, where they removed trash and debris.

The annual event was sponsored by the city of Newark, District 6, and the University's Activities and Programs Office and the Department of Residence Life. Assistance was provided by the UD Office of Greek Affairs, Sigma Nu fraternity Phi Sig Sig sorority, recreational services, Dining Services, grounds, movers, the Commuter and Off Campus Organization, the Ray Street Community and the Office of the Vice President for Student Life.

Additional support was provided by the city of Newark Department of Public Worlds.

The event is held each year as part of UD's Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant which, among other things, seeks to provide activities for students as it discourages inappropriate drinking.
