Vol. 18, No. 37July 22, 1999

Summer savings on health costs

Employees enrolled in the University's health-care plans are exempt from paying health insurance premiums for the months of July and August.

Effective July 1999, the state of Delaware changed the way health insurance is paid-from a pay-in-advance method to a pay-as-you-go method. Since employees already paid for July coverage with premiums deducted from June paychecks, no premiums are being deducted during July.

In addition, due to favorable claims experience, the State Group Health Insurance Committee has declared a premium moratorium for the month of August. Employee benefit deductions will be reduced by the amount of individual health care contributions for July and August pays.

Employees paid biweekly will receive a refund of health premiums deducted July 2 in their July 30 pay.
