Summer Arts Festival kicks off with beach party Aug. 14

An authentic beach party with Jan & Dean and the Surfaris, a country music fest with Ricochet, a production of Alice in Wonderland, a gospel music concert with Larnelle Harris and the annual Cape Concert by the Delaware Symphony are all included in this year's Summer Arts Festival.

For the first time, the festival will be held Aug. 14-21, still outdoors on the grounds of UD's H. Rodney Sharp Campus in Lewes. Seating is on the grass. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Advance tickets for all events are available at the UD Kent County Office, 69 Transportation Circle in Dover, at the Carter

Partnership Center in Georgetown and at the Bob Carpenter Center box office in Newark. They also are available from the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, 120 Kings Highway. Tickets also will be available at the gate on the day of the show.

The Rock 'n' Roll 'n' Remember Beach Party with Jan & Dean and the Surfaris begins at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for youth ages 12 and under. Tickets for sale on the day of the performance will be $12 for adults and $8 for youth ages 12 and under.

The Country Music Fest, with Ricochet and other artists, is cosponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. Scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. There are no discounted prices for children.

The American Family Theatre's production of Alice in Wonderland will begin at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 19. Tickets are $5 for adults in advance and $7 on the day of the show. The production is free to youth ages 12 and under.

Grammy and Dove award-winning artist Larnelle Harris, with guests Jeffrey Dean and the Kent Christian Sanctuary Choir, will perform beginning at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20. Advance tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 12 and under. Tickets purchased on the day of the show will be $10 for adults and $7 for youth ages 12 and under. Advance group tickets are available for groups of 10 or more with a $2 discount on each ticket.

The annual Cape Concert featuring the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, with the Lancaster Cannon Company, begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21. Pre-concert music will be provided beginning at 5:30 p.m. by the Sin City Band. Fireworks will conclude the show. Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for youth ages 12 and under. Tickets purchased on the day of the show will be $15 for adults and $9 for youth ages 12 and under. Raindate for this concert is Sunday, Aug. 22.
