UDWC presents annual award

Anita Puglisi has been recognized as the University of Delaware Women's Club's Woman of the Year Award to for her outstanding community work.

A resident of Newark since 1971, Puglisi has been involved in various community and civic activities. In the League of Women Voters (LWV) since 1972, she has served as a member, president of the LWV of New Castle County and is president-elect of the LWV of Delaware.

Her interest in the city of Newark has led her to work as both member and chairperson in the Newark Parking Authority over a 10-year period.

She was president of the Nottingham Civic Association from 1990-94.

The Newark representative on the Public Advisory Committee of WILMAPCO, which deals with issues of transportation that are currently challenging the New Castle County and Cecil County area, she also serves as a member of the board of the Newark Housing Authority.

Puglisi studied for her master's degree in urban affairs and public policy, which included a term as a legislative fellow in the Delaware General Assembly, and she plans to return to complete her degree.

She has been involved in the UDWC since 1972, and has served in many board positions, including president.

Puglisi donated her $125 award to the Sally M. Latham Memorial Poetry Scholarship Endowment Fund, which is administered through the Department of English.
