Prepare for e-mail conversion

Spring's just about over, and summer's almost here. Here are some suggestions to help keep you on track for the EMC2 conversion scheduled for this fall.

Begin your summer cleaning

Why not give your EMC2 account a summer cleaning?

The deadline for the conversion from EMC2 e-mail to desktop e-mail is Oct. 31. If you delete unnecessary messages in your EMC2 account this summer, your transition will be easier when you convert later this summer or this fall.

Information Technologies (IT) is creating a process that will allow you to move the mail you want to keep to a new, non-EMC2 account.

After you move the mail you want to keep, you will be able to access it at your convenience.

However, to make the process more manageable, you must delete all unnecessary messages before you move your mail later this summer.

You will receive further details when the new process is operational.

Start learning early

While you're deleting those old, musty messages, why not start to learn the new desktop e-mail application you'll use? You can find online help at the University's web site <http://www.udel.edu/topics/netscape/index. html>, including the following:

Firstname.Lastname@udel.edu

All your correspondents know your EMC2 e-mail address is "Firstname. Lastname @mvs.udel.edu." And, you like your e-mail address that way. You've had it for years, and it's easy to send e-mail to other University employees using the EMC2 address format.

"Firstname. Lastname@ udel.edu" now also works.

The IT staff has created a UNIX e-mail ID alias for all existing EMC2 e-mail IDs. Messages sent to this alias ID will be forwarded to your UNIX account.

This is the only change you need to make to your e-mail address extension: Change "@mvs.udel.edu" to "@udel.edu" when you tell someone your e-mail address. For example, "Roger.Rabbit@ mvs.udel.edu" would become "Roger.Rabbit@udel.edu."
