Health practitioners name instructor '99 Nurse of the Year

Jean Raymond, nursing, has been selected as the Delaware Nursing Association (DNA) Nurse of the Year for 1999. Raymond was presented with a plaque in April, during the association's spring conference attended by more than 350 health practitioners.

"I was very honored to be recognized in front of such a large group of my colleagues," Raymond said. "What touched me the most was that my colleagues and friends told me after the conference that it was a well-deserved award.

"I felt privileged to be nominated by a colleague who thought we had an excellent and close working relationship," she added.

Raymond has worked for the University as a part-time nursing instructor since 1993. She teaches a junior-level nursing course on using the nursing process to assist well clients of all ages promote and maintain their health. She also teaches classes that focus on the needs of older adults.

Raymond is the clinical coordinator of the Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Team (GAIT) at the University.

Through GAIT, she helps older adults and their families solve complex issues, such as guardianship and legal and ethical rights of the impaired older adult. Raymond is a certified clinical nurse specialist in gerontological nursing, and she is certified to prescribe medications.

Raymond has been an active member of DNA since 1991.
