Jason Sellers to open for Alabama

When Alabama, the top-of-the-charts, award-winning country music group, performs at the Bob Carpenter Center, the opening act will be the new, young, singing sensation, Jason Sellers. The performance is scheduled at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, at the Bob Carpenter Center.

A gospel singer with his family from his early childhood, Sellers admits to being "real passionate and emotional about life" and his music reflects this.

"I'm very extreme," Sellers said, "and my music is evident of that. I'm the same way in life-I either like to blow it out and yee haw it or sit in front of a fireplace and read a book.... I always cut to the unexpected. Nothing plain-I like to go the distance, you know."

His first album, y'allternative, is due out in September and will feature songs from the brash "It's a Man Job" to the emotional "Divorce My Heart." Sellers has written the lyrics to five of the 11 songs on the album.

Alabama, the most successful country music group in history, will then follow with an exciting, varied performance of the country music they have made famous.

The ninth biggest selling group of all time, Alabama is ahead of such rock greats as Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd and The Who. Alabama has won 12 American Music Awards as the public's favorite country group.

Tickets are $30 each and are on sale at the Trabant University Center and the Bob Carpenter Center box offices on the University's Newark campus. They also can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (302) 984-2000 where a convenience charge may apply.

The June 3 concert is being presented in conjunction with WDSD, 92.9 FM.
