Conrado M. Gempesaw II has been appointed acting vice provost for academic programs and planning, replacing John C. Cavanaugh, who has accepted a position at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Gempesaw currently serves as chairperson of the Department of Food and Resource Economics in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bobby Gempesaw," Provost Mel Schiavelli said. "He brings a thorough knowledge of our campus and academic programs, coupled with an international background, to the position. He also has teaching and administrative experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels."
"I am deeply honored to be appointed acting vice provost for academic affairs and planning and to be given the opportunity to serve the University in this capacity," Gempesaw said. "I look forward to working with students, staff, faculty and the administration in promoting the University's undergraduate and graduate academic programs."
Gempesaw received his bachelor's degree in economics from Ateneo de Davao University in the Philippines and later enrolled in a graduate program in industrial economics at the University of Asia and the Pacific. He earned his master's degree from West Virginia University and his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University, both in agricultural economics. A member of the Delaware faculty since 1985, he received the outstanding teaching award from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in 1992.
His fields of research are agricultural finance, production economics and marketing and international trade.
Gempesaw serves as editor of Agricultural and Resource Economics Review and was president of the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association in 1997. He was a visiting professor at the University of Economics in Poznan, Poland, in 1997 and at Ateneo de Davao University in 1998. ![]()
