Bob Shillinglaw named America East Coach of Year

Bob Shillinglaw, in his 21st season at UD, was named America East Coach of the Year. Shillinglaw has 193 career victories to rank among the top 10 active coaches in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1. This is the fourth time he has earned coach of the year honors. He was named national U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coach of the Year in 1979.

This season, Shillinglaw led the Blue Hens to their second NCAA tournament, its best season in school history. Delaware (14-3) was ranked No. 6 in the nation and played in the NCAA tournament, losing 17-10 to second-ranked University of Virginia in a quarterfinal game played May 23 at Princeton.

Other lacrosse honors were received by senior All-American John Grant, who was named America East Player of the Year, earning All-America East honors for the second year.

Four UD lacrosse players were placed on the first America East team, and three were second team selections.

Laurie Tortorelli was named America East Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year.
