John Cavanaugh, associate provost for graduate studies, has accepted a position as provost and vice chancellor of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

A 1975 UD graduate with high honors, Cavanaugh received his master's and doctoral degrees in developmental psychology from the University of Notre Dame. In 1994, he was selected as an American Council on Education (ACE) fellow, working in the UD's Office of the President during his fellowship year. He was appointed interim associate provost in 1995 and named associate provost in January 1997.

"It's been a wonderful experience coming back to work at my alma mater, and I have had extraordinary opportunities here. Working with the administration, faculty, staff and students has been an absolute delight," Cavanaugh said.

A reception will be held in his honor Friday, May 21.
