Mary Ann McLane, medical technology, was named 1999 Laboratorian of the Year by Advance, a magazine for medical laboratory professionals.
In his nomination letter, researcher Scott Aikey of the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) said McLane is "the best a laboratory professional can be."
After graduating from Temple University's Medical Technology Department, McLane began her career in the clinical laboratory science profession, as a bench technologist, Aikey reported.
She soon began teaching, too, at Temple, at Thomas Jefferson University and at Neuman College.
She earned her Ph.D. in physiology from Temple in 1994, and keeps her technical skills current through part-time work at the HUP. She remains active in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
