Extension fraternity honors 2 professionals for excellence in service and leadership skills

Earlier this year, Delaware Cooperative Extension honored professionals and volunteers at the annual meeting of the extension fraternity, Epsilon Sigma Phi, in Dover.

Among the honorees were two from UD, Ted Palmer and Cindy Genau, Cooperative Extension.

Palmer, a Kent Country 4-H and youth educator received the Distinguished Service Award for excellence in service for more than 20 years.

Under his leadership, the enrollment of the Kent Country 4-H clubs has increased, and programs have expanded, especially in the areas of citizenship and leadership skills. Palmer has worked to increase opportunities for nontraditional audiences, has helped provide programs at the Dover Air Force Base youth center.

Genau received the New Professional Award for excellence in service under three years. A community traffic, safety extension educator, Genau helped develop the Smart Walk Program for pedestrian and school bus safety in New Castle County and presented the program to 3,500 school children. She also is a liaison to civic associations, promoting sports-helmet safety and bicycle safety. She writes a column on safety issues for the Newark Post.
