The Museum Studies Program's 1998 Fall Forum Lecture Series theme is "Curating Challenging Collections: Aeronautical, Railroad and Maritime Artifacts."
The first presentation will be at 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18, on "The Care and Preservation of Aeronautical Collections," presented by Tom D. Crouch, senior curator of the Division of Aeronautics, National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
A Smithsonian employee since 1974, Crouch has served in a variety of curatorial and administrative posts in the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American History.
Among his nine books are The Bishop's Boys: A Life of Wilbur and Orville Wright, Eagle Aloft: Two Centuries of the Balloon in America, Charles Lindbergh: An American Life, Apollo: 10 Years Since Tranquillity Base and The Giant Leap: Ohio Aerospace Events and Personalities, 1815-1969.
Crouch has won a number of writing awards, including the history book prizes offered by both the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Aviation/Space Writers Association.
Other programs in the fall lecture series include a field trip to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, Pa., on Oct. 23, and "Staying Afloat: Challenges of Maritime Collections" on Dec. 4.

Organ concert in Newark church
David Herman, music, will present a free organ recital, at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 27, at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 East Main St.
The program will feature chaconnes and concertos by L. Couperin, Pachelbel, J.S. Bach and Handel, along with works by Manz, Howells and Dupre.
Herman has been chairperson of the UD Department of Music since 1987 and is organist at the Newark United Methodist Church.
An active recitalist, he has performed on many of the significant organs and carillons of North American, Great Britain and Germany.

'Gullah Gullah' in two shows at BCC
Gullah Gullah Island Live Show, an innovative, award-winning program on Nickelodean, the top network for kids, will be presented at 1 and 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, in the Bob Carpenter Center.Gullah Gullah Island, the home of Ron and Natalie Daise, is a place filled with music, stories and warm smiles. Join Ron and Natalie, with special guest Binyah Binyah Polliwog, as they blend upbeat songs and dancing with information and interactive and entertaining storylines.
Tickets range from $14.50 to $19.50 and can be purchased at all UD box offices or by calling Ticketmaster at 984-2000.
Three plays will be presented by the After Dinner Readers' Theatre at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, in Newark's Chapel Street Theatre.The program will feature staged readings of Chekhov's The Brute, Brecht's The Jewish Wife and Tennessee Williams' This Property is Condemned.
The free program, a cooperative effort among the departments of English and theatre, features plays that students study in class.

Enchanting works by printmaker Sergio Soave will be on display from Monday, Sept. 21 through Saturday, Oct. 3 in an exhibition entitled "Carnival of Fun" in the University's art department gallery in Recitation Hall. A reception for the artist is scheduled from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21.Soave received his bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Windsor, Ontario, and his masters of fine arts degree from West Virginia University where he is now chairperson of the department of art and an associate professor.
His work has been exhibited widely throughout the U.S. and Canada and is included in the Butler Museum of American Art, the Royal Museum of Antwerpen and numerous other institutions.
He is the past president of the Southern Graphics Council and is an active artist and teacher.

Honored guitarist to present recital
Guitarist Christiaan Taggart, 1998 Delaware Division of the Arts fellowship winner, will present a free recital at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
The program includes Traveling Songs by Robert Maggio, with flutist Eileen Grycky.
Also featured are Grand duo concertante by Moscheles and Guiliani, with pianist Julie Nishimura, and Sexteto mistico by Villa-Lobos for flute, oboe, sax, guitar, celeste and harp.
Taggart is instructor in guitar at UD and has appeared as a soloist with the Delaware Symphony, Richmond Chamber Players, Delaware Chamber Orchestra and Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra.
Since 1982, he has performed and recorded with flutist Grycky in the Taggart-Grycky Duo.
