Domenick B. Sicilia, Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center (BCC), has been named to the board of directors of the International Association of Assembly Managers Inc. (IAAM) in his capacity as District I vice president. His two-year term begins in July.
IAAM represents public assembly facilities around the world. Its 2,500 members include managers and senior executives from auditoria, arenas, convention centers, exhibit halls, stadiums, performing arts theatres and amphitheatres. The organization's purpose is to promote the professional and personal development of public assembly facility managers.
As a representative of the eastern region, Sicilia said his goal is to "mobilize the larger venues in the district, facilities that haven't been active in the organization and to guide them into becoming places where young professionals can get a start. I'm hoping to help establish a platform for the next millennium," he said.
Sicilia has been a member of IAAM since 1992, the year he became director of the BCC. During his seven-year association with IAAM, he has held several positions including member-at-large on the IAAM University's committee and assistant vice president of District I, which encompasses the eastern region.
As director of the BCC, Sicilia oversees facility management and building operations for the BCC, Delaware Stadium and the ice arenas and outdoor pools.
Sicilia began his career in facility management when he was a graduate student at Indiana University and served as conference coordinator in the Biddle Continuation Center of the Indiana Memorial Union. He held other positions before coming to UD in 1981 as operations manager of the Perkins Student Center.
