The celebration the renovation of Warner Hall, UD's only female residence hall, was one of the four residence hall programs to receive recognition as model programs at the American College Personnel Association Commission III in Atlanta March 19-24.
"Warner Week," held March 15-20, celebrated the history of Warner Hall, which was built in 1914 and recently renovated. Programs included "Warnerstock," a coffeehouse gathering of student poets and musicians; "Warner Herstory," a presentation on University history by Carol Hoffecker, Richards Professor of History; a program on self-defense with members of Public Safety; and "Working Women," presented by the Office of Career Planning and Placement Center, which discussed resources for women entering the work force, family issues, sexual harassment and discrimination. The weeklong celebration was coordinated by Jessica Feeney, Dickinson Hall director.
Celebrating Black History Month in February through "Leaders Living on Laird," the University highlighted the achievements of African-American leaders, both nationally and on campus. Photographs, profiles and achievements of historical leaders and student leaders at Delaware were displayed in the Christiana Commons, the Pencader Complex and at the Ray Street Complex. This program was developed by Cheryl Davis, complex coordinator for Ray Street.
A campuswide series of programs exploring methods of curbing campus alcohol abuse was the focus of "National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week," held October 15-24. The residence life portion of the week was organized by Holli Harvey, complex coordinator for Gilbert/ Harrington residence halls.
The fourth program was held Nov. 17. A workshop introduced students to investing, reading The Wall Street Journal and researching firms, IRAs and mutual funds. Economics faculty Kenneth Biederman and Donald Puglisi, MBNA America Business Professor, served as moderators for "Getting Started in the Stock Market," coordinated by Marianne Connolly, resident assistant, Sharp Hall.
