Committee formed to search for business college dean

Andras Szeri, interim dean of the College of Engineering, will lead the search committee to find a new dean for the College of Business and Economics, following the untimely death earlier this year of Dean Dana Johnson.

Provost Mel Schiavelli announced the formation of the search committee today. "Finding a worthy successor who can meet the high standards Dana set is a priority for the University," he said.

Kenneth Biederman, who served as dean of the college of Business and Economics from 1990-96, was named interim dean during the transition period.

"The College of Business and Economics and the University lost a very dynamic leader in Dean Johnson," Szeri said. "She will be hard to replace, but the college's excellent reputation and the high ranking of the University among public institutions will attract outstanding candidates, and I am, therefore, very optimistic as to the outcome of the search," he said.

Members of the search committee include John Field, managing director, J.P. Morgan Delaware, and a member of the College of Business and Economics Advisory Board; Conrado Gempesaw, food and resource economics; Ken Lewis, Chaplin Tyler Professor of Business; Don Puglisi, MBNA America Business Professor; Janis Reeder, accounting and management information systems; John Sawyer, business administration; and Terry Whitaker, business and economics.
