Host families needed for Ukrainian lawyers, judges

From April 9-May 6, the University will host a group of 20 lawyers and judges from the Ukraine, as part of a United States Information Agency (USIA) Community Connections grant program. Area families are needed to host the visitors.

The grant program specifies that the visitors be housed in American homes, rather than on campus, and a modest stipend--of $10 per day per participant, for a total of 28 days--is provided.

Homestay families are asked to provide a room and breakfast and dinner for the time the participants are in Newark. Participants will be kept quite busy with a full schedule of professional and cultural activities.

Those interested in hosting, or who would like additional information, should contact Christopher Wolfe, legal studies coordinator, at 831-6291.

This is the seventh time the English Language Institute, through its American Law and Legal English Institute, has provided training in American law and the U.S. legal system to Ukrainian legal professionals.

The grant participants will attend classes and seminars on campus, as well as make professional visits to courts, law firms and government agencies in Delaware, New York and Washington, D.C., meeting with colleagues, and viewing the U.S. legal system firsthand.
