Staff parking changes to streamline registration

Parking procedures for faculty and staff are being made easier for this fall.

Beginning in September, employees will be able to pay for parking with "pre-tax" dollars through payroll deduction. All employees who are eligible for payroll deduction will be allowed to chose to pay for their permit with payroll deducted "pre-tax" dollars, changing the tax base of the employee's paycheck. Additional information on this change will be sent out with parking renewal notices later this spring.

Another improvement taking effect next year is that employees will no longer be required to supply vehicle information to obtain a parking permit. Employees who register for parking will be issued a small hang-tag permit that will placed on the rearview mirror of whatever car they drive to campus. There will no longer be a need to put the small square sticker on the back of all employee vehicles to be driven on campus.

Lawrence Thornton, Public Safety, said, "These changes are designed to streamline the registration process and to support the parking needs of University employees."
